Important Glass Painting
Beautiful Chinese European-subject reverse-glass painting made during the Qing dynasty circa year 1790. This rare glass painting is a replica of Sir Joshua Reynolds work “A Nymph and Cupid: ‘The Snake in the Grass’” which was painted in 1784 and is a part of the collection at Tate. The woman posing for Venus in this painting was most likely the famous Lady Emma Hamilton (1765-1815) who was a popular muse, the wife of Sir William Hamilton and mistress of Lord Nelson. Height: 65 cm | Width: 50 cm
